Mr. Purviance also established himself as a top-notch studio musician getting calls for recordings, industrials, commercials and films.
This experience helped him expand his career to include music production and composition. Over the years he has scored and edited soundtracks for numerous film and television projects including Me and Him, The Winter in Lisbon and People Magazine’s 20th Anniversary show on ABC. As a producer, Douglas Purviance’s credits include the Vanguard Jazz Orchestr’a Grammy nominated Lickety Split, the Music of Jim McNeely and the Thad Jones Legacy.

Douglas Purviance serves as the Business Manager for the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and is on the board of directors for the orchestra’s not-for-profit entity Sixteen as One Music Inc. He is an active jazz educator, clinician and workshop leader for high schools and colleges throughout the country and regularly participates in worldwide master class/ performance tours.
